2.000 people protest in Bern against Islamophobia

Berne, 29 Oct 2011-Over 2000 people, mostly Muslims, demonstrated in the Swiss capital to protest against discrimination and Islamophobia, AFP reported.

Protesters, who responded to the call by the Islamic Council, gathered at the principal square in front of the federal parliament in Swiss capital Bern.

Organizers of this protest, claiming to gather 2.000 people, installed an inflatable minaret and many stands, selling veils, jewelries and religious literature.

Some protesters raised banners that read “Against Islamophobia and Racism”, while an Imam was reciting the prayer in front of the public.

“Are you waiting until Muslims are treated as second class citizens”, head of the Islamic Council Nicolas Blancho asked people, who answered with a big “No”.
