Berlusconi says he will resign

The Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi said in an interview to an Italian newspaper that he will not stand in case there would be elections. The Presidency of the Italian Republic had announced Tuesday the resignation of Cavaliere.

"I will not represent myself, I feel even released," said the head of the Italian government, adding that he wants to put the torch to his heir, Angelino Alfano, who has been appointed general secretary of his party People of Freedom.
